On May 9, 2015 we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Victory over fascism. Azerbaijani people who made substantial contribution to this historical Victory sent more than 700 thousands of its sons and daughters to the front line. About half of them did not return from the battlefields. For the courage shown in the combats 128 citizens of Azerbaijan were honored with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and more than 170 thousands of our soldiers and officers were awarded with the different orders and medals.

Our people displayed gallantry and persistence both in the battlefields and rear. Baku oil played irreplaceable role in achieving this Victory. Azerbaijan’s share in the total production of the Soviet Union during the war in 1941-1945 was more than 70 percents of oil, 80 percents of gasoline and 90 percents of motor oil.

Our main objective when producing the documentary film “Target is Baku. How Hitler lost the battle of oil” was to perpetuate the heroic history of Azerbaijan and inform on it the younger generation and world community. At the same time this film is manifestation of our deepest respect and tribute to the memory of all people who lived through pain and grief of the war – those who fought up-front and those who set the great Victory with the hard work in the rear. I believe that the film “Target is Baku. How Hitler lost the battle of oil” reflecting the irreplaceable substantial contribution of our people to the great Victory will cause a feeling of pride and honor in every viewer.

SYNOPSIS

The film is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory over fascism.

The documentary film “Target is Baku. How Hitler lost the battle of oil” is about the role of people of Azerbaijan and its greatest asset - oil in achieving the victory over fascism.

In the film the history of the Second World War called “the war of engines” is looked through completely a new prism – through the prism of battle of oil. Azerbaijan’s share in the total production of the Soviet Union during the war in 1941-1945 was more than 70 percents of oil, 80 percents of gasoline and 90 percents of motor oil. The vast majority of the tanks and aircrafts which played the decisive role in assurance of the Victory worked on the fuel sent by the oilmen of Baku. It is not coincidence that Baku with its “black gold” would be the most valuable trophy for Hitler when he was trying to capture the city.

The film presents the spots of the canned news not shown hitherto and restored in color format.

The work over the project lasted 14 months

month

Prior to production of the film its subject was discussed by many world experts about 2 months, documents, photos and videotapes were examined in the different archive bodies;

More than 200 video items kept in the archives were used for production of the film. These items were received from the archive bodies of Azerbaijan, Russia, France, Germany and England.

Only transfer of the film into HD format, restoration of the archive shots and transfer of them into color image took more than 3 months;

According to the internal standards of the “National Geographiс” channel where this film to be shown, prior to exhibition of any film the accuracy and impartiality of the facts used to be verified at first. Duration of the verification process of the film “Target is Baku” was about three weeks.

Another film “Apocalypse: World War II” made earlier by this company was viewed by more than one billion people in 171 countries of the world. In general this film became the most viewed and was selected as a film with the highest rating on the “National Geographic” channel;

Length of equator is 40.075 300 kilometers. 66,5 tons of fuel are required for covering the equator length route round the Earth by one tank.

During the Second World War Baku supplied the front with 75 000 000 tons of oil. Taking into account the losses during processing, 188.000 tanks with such amount of fuel could cover the equator length route round the Earth

Filmdə “mühərriklər müharibəsi” adlandırılan İkinci Dünya müharibəsinin tarixinə tamamilə yeni mövqedən – neft uğrunda döyüş mövqeyindən baxılır. 1941-1945-ci illər müharibəsi zamanı Sovet İttifaqının sərf etdiyi neftin 70 faizindən çoxu, benzinin 80 faizi, motor yağlarının isə 90 faizi Azərbaycanın payına düşmüşdür. Qələbənin təmin edilməsində həlledici rol oynamış tank və təyyarələrin tam əksəriyyəti Bakı neftçilərinin göndərdiyi yanacaqla hərəkətə gətirilirdi.
